Quito - Yanacocha - Tandayapa Valley & Mindo - Quito - Amazon (Sacha Lodge) - Quito
Discover the stunning birds of the Ecuadorian cloud forest, from the bizarre Sword-billed Hummingbird to the vividly-coloured Andean Cock-of-the-rock. Expect mouth-watering views of Pale-mandibled Aracari and other speciality species like Plate-billed Mountain-Toucan. You'll search for Swallow-tailed Nightjar and Beautiful Jay (which really live up to their name) and you'll be astounded to see so many species of hummingbird.
Then explore the Amazon rainforest, staying at the highly acclaimed Sacha Lodge. From the famous canopy walkway you'll enjoy canopy species at eye-level: Channel-billed Toucan, Yellow-tufted Woodpecker, Golden-collared Toucanet, Blue Dacnis, Paradise Tanager and even sloths, not to mention potoos along the trails and parrots at clay-licks.
And if this isn't enough, you can choose to fish for Piranhas or swim with them (optional) and look for Black Caiman in the evenings.

Cloud forest and Amazon birdwatching and wildlife tour 16 days
Quito - Yanacocha - Tandayapa Valley, Mindo & Refugio Paz Le Las Aves- Quito - Amazon (Sacha Lodge and Napo Wildlife Centre) - Quito
As mentioned in the previous itinerary, with the assistance of our talented guides it is not uncommon to experience well over 30 species of Hummingbird on this tour, one of which could be the endemic Black-breasted Puffleg. The list of large, colourful species which can be encountered on this tour is amazing with Lettered and Many-banded Aracaris, Crimson-rumped Toucanet and perhaps four or more species of Trogon.
As well as a fabulous stay at Sacha Lodge (mentioned above) you will spend four additional nights in the Amazon at Napo Wildlife Centre allowing time to explore Yasuni National Park where Giant Otter can be seen along the channels. Six species of monkey have been known to visit the area around the lodge, including Golden Tamarin, White-fronted Capuchin and Dusky Titi Monkeys
You can visit clay-licks to see hundreds of Cobalt-winged Parakeets, Mealy Amazons and sometimes Orange-cheeked Parrots, too. Rarities such as the Scarlet-shouldered Parrotlet and, occasionally, Scarlet as well as Red-and-Green Macaws can join the mised flocks. The number of species and number of individual birds varies depending on weather, time of year and, of course, that little bit of luck.

Quito - Papallacta & Antisana - Quito - Yanacocha - Tandayapa Valley & Mindo - Refugio Paz De Las Aves - Quito - Amazon (Sacha Lodge) - Quito
Experience the excitement of birdwatching in diverse cloud forest on this birding tour to Ecuador. See the brilliant Crested and Golden-headed Quetzals in the Tandayapa Valley. Visit Angel Paz's private reserve for unbelievably close views of Giant, Yellow-breasted and Moustached Antpittas which frequent the trails for a daily offering of worms - quite an incredible site. Visit hummingbird feeders where you can expect 10 - 15 species in just an hour, go to a restaurant with a twist - their bird table visitors include Flame-faced and Silver-throated Tanagers, Red-headed Barbet and Powerful Woodpecker.
High altitude birding at Papallacta might bring views of the magnificent Andean Condor, Torrent Duck, Ecuadorian Hillstar, Sword-billed and Giant Hummingbirds. Returning to Quito via Antisana might add other rare high altitude species including Black-faced Ibis, Carunculated Caracara and Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe.
Explore the Amazon where, in addition to those already mentioned, further gems could include Green and Gold Tanager, Gilded Barbet and Purple-throated Fruitcrow, to name just a few that can be seen from the famous canopy walkway and high towers.
