Bird watching holidays with Wild About Travel

from Tragopans to Trogons and Frogmouths to Fire-tailed Myzornis we can tailor a tour for you

Fabulous bird watching holiday destinations are found all over India waiting to be discovered by you with the assistance of our knowledgeable and skilled bird guides!

In northern India, one of the most well known is Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. In years of good rain it's alive with the sights and sounds of tens of thousands of birds: raucous breeding colonies of Storks and Egrets, there are Jacanas, Ibises, Cranes, Kingfishers to name a few.  Dusky Eagle Owl, Orange-headed Thrush and Nightjars are regularly seen in dry scrub and woodland. Along the Chambal River look for Indian Skimmer, Great Thick-knee and Great Black-headed (Pallas's) Gull. Further to the west in Rajasthan search for Great Indian Bustard or marvel at the huge numbers of Demoiselle Cranes at Keechan.

Further north, bird watching in the Himalayas can bring you close views of Tawny Fish-owl, Pallas's Fish-eagle, Great Hornbill and the elusive Great Slaty Woodpecker at Corbett National Park.  A little higher up the oak and rhododendron forests around Pangot and Nainital is home to striking species like Red-billed Blue Magpie.

A south India bird tour provides a wide variety of alternative species.  From the stunningly beautiful White-bellied Treepie to the elusive Nilgiri Laughingthrush our expert guides will help you find the endemic birds of the region and they know where to look for the cryptic Ceylon Frogmouth.

For a totally different experience bird watching in Gujarat in the far west offers Crab Plovers and Lesser Flamingos along the Gulf of Kutch, Marshall's Iora, White-bellied Minivet, Grey Hypocolius and White-naped Tit around Bhuj.  Also search for MacQueen's Bustard, Indian Courser and Sociable Plover near the Little Rann of Kutch.

In the far north east lie the remote, spectacularly scenic montane forests of Eaglenest, Namdapha and Mishmi with a stunning array of birds including Tragopans and Trogons.

If you are a keen birder interested in specific species (for example the rare Great Indian Bustard, Forest Owlet, Green Avadavat, Bugun Liocichla, White-winged Duck) or if you would like a tour focusing on the endemic birds of South India or the Andamans we can assist.  So if you are looking for Tragopans or Trogons, Pittas or Bustards please get in touch.
